The Future of Music Stands? An Honest Review of the KraftGeek Capsule
I’ve spent the last 10 years carrying a standard, heavy-duty orchestral stand to every gig. It’s bulky, it takes up half my trunk, and the knobs always seem to go missing. When KraftGeek sent me their Capsule Music Stand to test, I was skeptical. It’s a premium item, and I wanted to see if it actually solved real problems during theater pits, weddings, and session work.
The Real-World Specs

What Actually Matters: The Practical Design
Most portable stands are a puzzle of screws and sliding metal. The Capsule uses a "twist and pull" mechanism. There are no knobs to tighten or plates to screw on.
The Small Detail: The legs. On most stands, the legs stick out even when folded. On this, they tuck flush into the body. It’s a small bit of engineering that makes it feel like a professional tool rather than a cheap accessory.
Testing the Accessories
I tested the stand with the LumiLight and the FlexyMount.
The Light: It’s bright and glare-free. It runs on AA batteries or USB-C. It’s great for dark pits, though I found the two brightness levels to be very similar.
The FlexyMount: This is probably the most useful add-on. It holds a phone or a 13" iPad. I’ve been using it to record my rehearsals for self-critique without needing to carry a separate tripod to the gig.
The Honest Truth: Who is this NOT for?
To be blunt, this stand isn't for everyone.
The Budget Musician: If you just need a stand for your bedroom and it’s never going to leave the house, a $20 wire stand is fine. You don't need to spend this much.
Heavy Score Books: While it’s sturdy for its weight, it is still a travel stand. If you’re a conductor with a massive, 5-pound score binder, stick to a heavy-duty permanent stand.
The "Set it and Forget it" Player: If you don't travel for gigs, the portability of the Capsule is a wasted feature.
Who is it for? The gigging professional. The person that appreciates design and likes to buy once. If you are tired of gear fatigue and want something that disappears into your bag and looks sleek on stage, this is it.
Final Verdict
The KraftGeek Capsule is effectively the "Apple" of music stands. It’s expensive, but the design solves the small frustrations of gigging life. It’s very light, very fast to set up, and after a month of heavy use, I’m not going back to my old one.
